MeteorologyByMaven (the “app”) is a weather, radar, and mapping application operated by an independent developer (“we,” “us”). This policy explains what information the app accesses, how that information is used, and who it is shared with. It is written around one principle: collect as little as possible, require no account, and keep your data on your device wherever we can.
The app does not ask you to create an account, sign in, or provide an email address, phone number, or name. It contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking software. We do not build an advertising or behavioral profile of you, and we do not sell your information.
With your permission, the app accesses your device’s location to provide its core features:
To return these results, your coordinates — or the area of the map you are currently viewing — are sent to the weather, mapping, places, traffic, and routing providers listed in Section 6. The app does not keep a running history of your location. The only location-based records the app retains are the parking spot and trips you explicitly save, and those are stored only on your device (see Section 5).
When you search for a place, your search text is sent to the geocoding providers to return matching locations.
When you use Ask MAVEN, the in-app assistant, the message you type — together with limited on-screen context such as the displayed location name and the current conditions — is sent to Cloudflare Workers AI to generate a reply. Your conversation is held only in memory for that session; it is not saved to your device or to any account by the app, and it is cleared when you reload or close the app. Please do not type sensitive personal information into the assistant.
If you choose to enable weather alerts, the app registers an anonymous push-notification subscription so that alerts can be delivered to your device. This subscription is a technical token; it is not linked to your name, email, or any account identifier.
The following are stored locally in your browser or app storage and do not leave your device unless this policy states otherwise. You can erase all of it at any time by clearing the app’s site data or cache.
To deliver its features, the app sends location-derived data (your coordinates or the map area you are viewing) and, where noted, your search text or assistant messages, to the providers below. These services receive only what is needed to return the requested result. They do not receive your name, email, or an account identifier, because the app does not have any. We encourage you to review each provider’s own privacy practices.
| Provider | Purpose | Receives |
|---|---|---|

| NOAA / U.S. National Weather Service | Public radar, alerts & weather data | Map area viewed |
| Iowa Environmental Mesonet | Precipitation radar imagery | Map area viewed |
| RainViewer | Precipitation radar | Map area viewed |
| Blitzortung | Live lightning data (real-time connection) | Map area & connection metadata (incl. IP) |
| OpenFreeMap & CARTO | Base map tiles | Map area viewed |
| Esri / ArcGIS | Satellite imagery | Map area viewed |
| AWS Terrain Tiles | 3D terrain elevation | Map area viewed |
| BigDataCloud | Reverse geocoding (coordinates → place name) | Coordinates |
| Komoot Photon | Place search | Search text, coordinates |
| OpenStreetMap | Nearby places data | Coordinates |

| TomTom | Live traffic | Map area viewed |
| OSRM (Project OSRM) | Driving directions / routing | Start & destination coordinates |
Because several of these requests pass through our own Cloudflare service before reaching the provider, Cloudflare also processes that data in the course of delivering it.
If you choose to open driving directions in an external map application (for example, Google Maps), your destination coordinates are sent to that application at the moment you tap the link — and only then.
The app is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us so we can address it.
Connections between the app and the services above use encrypted HTTPS. Because the app stores your data on your device and operates without an account, there is no central store of user profiles to be breached. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we rely on the secure-transport and security practices of the platforms and providers we use.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA to access or delete personal information. Given that the app holds no account and stores your data on your device, you can exercise those rights directly through your device; for any questions, contact us using the details below.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be reflected here.
